The Secret
I said I was going to reveal something huge this week. Something saturated in my blood, sweat, and tears. Something I held secret for a long time. Too long. Something that exposes me and makes me more vulnerable than I’ve ever been.
And I will.
But first, I need you to go on a little ride with me. From the neurons firing in your brain to the marrow in your bones, I need you to comprehend the gravity of what I’m about to tell you.
Imagine yourself as eighteen again. No, really. Think about that time in your life. All the uncertainties. The feelings of trepidation and excitement mixed with insecurity and fear. The angst. Hormones charging through your veins like bulls, twisting and turning your emotions on a dime. The yearning to find yourself and understand who you are.
What if on top of all that you also had an enormous secret? One that no one else in the world knows except an empath, who also happens to be your brother. Not even your parents…or a single friend.
Imagine this secret so encompassing, it swallows the rest of your world whole, like the sun’s shadow eclipsing the moon. Other experiences are muted as a result. You feel empty and desperate; you’re disconnected from your family, and unable to make friendships.
Isolated.
Angry.
Confused.
Resentful.
You exist in a figurative cave. The only beacon of hope is the sliver of light your secret provides. The secret you love as much as you hate. The secret that robs you like a thief in the night while providing the air you breathe.
And even though you tried desperately to research information about it…you’re left with nothing. Zero. Nada. Nil.
Because it has no name. It has no support group. In fact, it doesn’t appear to exist anywhere else in the world. Which is why even if you could tell someone…you wouldn’t. They’d think you were insane.
Can you envision this? Are you feeling the immense pressure on your chest, squeezing your lungs? Do you feel the bitter angst in your veins, boiling with rage?
Good. You’ve just entered the world of Devi Bennett.
Who is she?
She is me.
Well, sort of. You see, I’ve been very busy these past two years. I wrote a fiction novel titled Order of Seven. Devi is the main character.
And the secret isn’t Devi’s only problem. There’s also her unknown heritage, a reoccurring dream about an African tribal ceremony that’s plagued her since childhood, and an inexplicable connection to a certain tree.
Mysteries that she hopes can be explained by finding her biological family.
Then she meets Baron, an intense and alluring energy healer, whose prophetic dreams seem to be connected to her. But when one of his visions leads to an ancient legend that could link to her birthright, she learns her secret may be more imperative than she ever thought imaginable.
Want to know what her secret is? Curious what happens to her? Does she ever tell anyone? Does she find her family? Will she ever understand this thing that holds her captive? More importantly…does she get it on with Baron?
Good news. In approximately one week, Order of Seven – the story I’ve nailed my soul to – is released into the world, ready to be devoured and experienced.
You won’t read it. You will eat it, breathe it, inhale it.
You will live it. Real time. Through Devi’s eyes.
It will crawl under your skin and consume you. Let it. This is the kind of possession you want.
Come back Thursday for a peek inside the pages, as well as a few other surprises you won’t want to miss. Shhh. I can’t tell you.
It’s a secret.
ORDER OF SEVEN releases in all formats April 7. Claim your copy now and preorder for Kindle or Nook.

Mandi, I foresee a smack-down, mud-slinging (or jello) fight between you and Lizzi. She claimed FRIST earlier cuz her phone wouldn’t load the page….and now here you are…..and I’m staying out of it! Let the mud-wrestling begin!

I agree with Michelle ^^^. I do love you and Devi, but I really love Baron, and his scruff, and his tattoos, and his LAS.
Can’t wait to see this book explode. I’m telling you, you’re going to forget about me when you’re hanging out with Steven King and George RR Martin, but I’ll still be here telling people about Big Truck Taco Tuesday and how I actually got to read ALL the sex scenes. What?

Big Truck Taco Tuesday will never die. Even when I’m canoodling with literary stars (and Adam Levine)……I will always have time for BTTT. hahaha

This post not only gives me goosebumps, it has also given me the courage to reveal my own, deep secret that I have told no one:
*long sigh*
I’m not the inspiration for Baron.
I know! It’s hard to believe. And there is probably a lot of disappointment out there. I mean other than mine. But please, everyione. No tears. Beth’s book is bigger than me. And judging by descriptions, so is Baron.
OK, all silliness aside — Congrats, Beth! “Order of Seven” sounds amazing 😉

Perhaps you are the inspiration, but she doesn’t want you to know?
Then again, if you aren’t, then maybe I am. And I would certainly be okay with that.

*gasp* YOU’RE NOT??? *pouts*
Well, aside from the fact that I totally picture you with chiseled abs, the character would’ve been TOO SEXY FOR A BOOK had I used you as inspiration. I mean, come on….a dude’s gotta have some flaws. They can’t all be like you, Ned. It just wouldn’t be believable fiction. pffft.
😉

Yes. I see your point, Beth. Believability IS key to compelling fiction. And I do suppose my sexiness factor is — as they say — unrefinable. I mean unremarkable. Crap! I mean unredeemable. NO, unconscionable! WAIT! I meant…
Oh forget it.

Is there a character I can play in the movie version? I guess I’m a little too old for Devi.
I love that I know what LAS is.

There’s this scene where a very southern hostess with a high bun of red hair seats Devi and Nodin at a restaurant. If you can do a Southern drawl, you got the part. 🙂
Thank you dear sister wife. MUAH.
